Last foliage update - live from above Central Park

Sadly it looks like the best of the season has passed us by. Bald patches dot the park and the most vibrant colors are fading to brown.

All that's left is to wait for the sublime bleakness of a January snowstorm.

Battlestar Galactica Explained

This is probably the funniest minute of TV I've seen this season so far, not counting the Indiana Jones episode of South Park.

Alright, I'm going to be honest, if I don't get a certain amount of followers in a month, Blogger reps are going to shoot a kitten in the face... alright, no they won't, but nonetheless, if you love kittens, follow me.)

Foliage update - live from above Central Park

I can't even begin to explain how much beauty this wretched camera phone leaves out.

A picture may be worth 1000 words but seeing it for yourself is priceless.

You(th)tube

A couple of weeks ago, I got a call from my friend Kevin, whom I have mentioned here before. He and his students wanted to do a response video to the Don't Vote ad with Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill and others... I'm sure you've all seen it on the youtubes. Naturally, Kevin called me to help out with it. Liz and I got in gear pretty quickly and spent a Saturday afternoon working with Kevin and his incredible students on this video, which I edited and posted on the youtubes as well. It's only 2 minutes long and absolutely worth your time (if you're not from the United States, here's a small bit of proof that not all of our young people are lazy and self-centered), not because of my awesome cinematographic and editing skills but because of the message.

These kids dedicated themselves over the last few months to helping schools - not just in New York City but across the country - get their eligible students to register to vote. That is an astounding feat in and of itself. The next natural step was to remind those new voters to actually vote. I'm happy that I was able to help them in such a small way by cobbling together this video. It was scripted (and in some cases, ad-libbed) by the students. I'd say that these are real young Americans but they're from New York City and, as we all learned this past week, New York isn't a part of "Real America."

But just know that these young people, all new voters themselves, really stepped up and made a difference.

There are two weeks to go before Election Day. Don't let the youth of America down. Watch this video, pass the message (and the video, if you like it) along, and remember to vote on November 4.

Our Greatest Fears Realized

"The normal question, the first question is always; are these cannibals? No, they are not cannibals. Cannibalism in the true sense of the word implies an interspecies activity. These creatures cannot be considered human. They prey on humans. They do not prey on each other, that's the difference. They attack and they feed only on warm human flesh. Intelligence? Seemingly little or no reasoning power, but basic skills remain and more remembered behaviors from normal life. There are reports of these creatures using tools. But even these actions are the most primitive, the use of external articles as bludgeons and so forth. I might point out to you that even animals will adopt the basic use of tools in this manner. These creatures are nothing but pure, motorized instinct. We must not be lulled by the concept that these are our family members or our friends. They are not. They will not respond to such emotions. They must be destroyed ON SIGHT!" - Dr. Millard Rausch

Dear friends and readers, it is with an overwhelming sense of terror that I must inform you all that the inevitable has happened. The zombie uprising, that atrocity which we never imagined we would see in our lifetimes, has in fact begun.

I haven't actually read the article but what else could a headline like that mean? Between that and this picture, taken just two nights ago in my hometown of Hempstead, NY:

leads me to believe that that which I have long feared might happen has finally come to pass.

Remember: keep a cool head, horde as many antibiotics as you can, avoid major cities, and either destroy the brain or separate the head from the rest of the body.

God help us all.

Foliage update - live from Central Park

As you can see, some of the treetops have begun to turn yellow and orange, and just in the last couple of days.

It's as if God was touching the trees after eating Cheetos.

Giant Cheetos.
